Boat burns at Maxi Gas Marina in Onset

A boat fire that happened on Friday evening is currently under investigation by the Onset Fire Department.

The boat, a 26-foot Sea Ray docked at Maxi Gas Marina on Route 6, became fully engulfed in flames at approximately 5 p.m. Onset Fire and Bourne Fire crews responded to the scene.

According to Onset Fire Captain Howard Andersen, there were no injures. He said it’s unknown what caused the fire.

The fire closed Route 6 for more than an hour as crews ran hoses across the highway.

Wow, what a mess.  I feel bad for the boat owner.  Boating has provided so many fond memories for my family.  I'd hate to go through something like that.


The Fire Dept did a great job keeping it from spreading to anything else!  Now that bilge full of hazardous liquid needs to be pumped and hauled away before this situation pollutes our water anymore than it already has.

If I'm not mistaken the boat was pulled from the water within hours of the incident.

Looks like someone won't have to pay storage this year :)
