Alan Slavin honored at Town Meeting

Apr 22, 2024

Members of the Select Board and Finance Committee and a wide array of town employees wore bow ties during Town Meeting on Monday, April 22. They wore them as an homage to the customary attire of Select Board Member Alan Slavin, who is retiring from the Select Board this year after 12 years of service.

“Many of us have spent many years sitting with Mr. Slavin. This is his last Town Meeting sitting at this desk — it certainly won’t be his last Town Meeting,” said Select Board Chair Judith Whiteside.

“It’s a small token of appreciation for Mr. Slavin,” Whiteside added.

Senator Marc Pacheco presented a Commonwealth Citation to Slavin on behalf of the citizens of Wareham and of Massachusetts. Pacheco said he wanted to be here on the occasion of Slavin’s 12 years of service and “all the work that you had done for so, so many, so, so many years on behalf of the townspeople.”

Slavin thanked everyone who takes the time to participate in local government, including the voters, resident and non-resident landowners and town employees.

“My family has always given back. It’s expected and required. I believe I have fulfilled the obligation with 18 years of service in the Town of Wareham,” said Slavin.
