WAREHAM – Betty Jo (Todd) Kashner, 92, of Wareham, passed away on April 22, 2024, at Sippican Healthcare Center, Marion. She was the wife of the late David L. Kashner and the daughter of the late Clarence and Retha Geneva (Gentry) Todd.

She was born in Bloomington-Normal, Il. in 1931. Being the eldest of six during the depression, Betty Jo lent a hand raising her siblings and as adults her brothers and sisters often sang her praises for her continuing strength and kindness.

While stationed in Newport RI with her husband David Kashner, the salt air seeped into their veins, and they move their family of three to Onset in 1964 where she raised her family. Many remember Betty Jo as the paint lady from Benny’s. “Oh yeah, I know your Mom, from Benny’s” is a phrase her children would hear when catching up with old friends, or their parents.

Betty Jo enjoyed enjoying her quilting and sewing projects, from sewing school clothes up until her fingers decided they needed a rest. She enjoyed all things Jane Austen, re-reading Pride and Prejudice every few years. She valued her lifelong friendships, Connie Ikella, Sandra Besse, and Sue Boyarski. She was really funny and pretty and had a great big laugh when something tickled her fancy. She grew her own vegetables and ensured birthdays and holidays were special and celebrated. She cheered on Tom Brady and the Patriots, enjoyed a taste of Jamesons now and then and loved the song “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”.

At her core Betty Jo believed in goodness, kindness, and generosity of spirit. Regardless of the trials and tribulations that came her way she never gave up on loving her family.

She had so much to be proud of and her family is so proud of her.

Survivors include her a son, Brian D. Kashner and his wife Denise of Wareham a Daughter, Teri Su Kashner of Greenfield, MA. Additionally, she is survived by her sisters, Carol Mayala of Stillwater MN., Sandra Stowers of Normal Il. and Sharon Fippinger of Sarasota, Fl.

She is survived by 5 grandchildren, Jeremy, Daniel, Rachael, Megan and her partner Sharyl, and Brian Michael, 8 great grandchildren, Brandi, Brooke, Alyssa, Zoe, Sebastian, Mackenzie, Madison and Reese and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Michael David Kashner.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 10, 2024, at Agawam Cemetery, Wareham.
