Wareham Police respond to second shooting threat this week, arrest student

May 04, 2017

For the second time in as many days, Wareham Police have arrested a Wareham High School student for allegedly threatening a school shooting.

On Thursday, police said a juvenile male was placed under arrest after saying a statement to the effect that he would “shoot up the school.” The incident was reported to School Resource Officer Karl Baptiste by Wareham High School staff.

The student has been charged with Threats to Commit a Crime and Terroristic Threats. He is scheduled to appear at the juvenile session of Wareham District Court for arraignment at an undisclosed date. Police noted that the matter is currently under investigation.

Thursday’s arrest followed one made on Tuesday when another juvenile male was arrested after allegedly posting “anyone down for a school shooting?” on social media site Snapchat. In that instance, Wareham High School also notified Baptiste and the student was promptly arrested. Police said the student denied being involved with planning a shooting.

In both cases, Police Chief Kevin Walsh praised the school officials for their “decisive actions.”

It takes a real special kind of stupid to say anything like this.

Well now, not sure what to make of this copycat nonsense.  Just take all my comments on the first dumb ass and apply to this one.  I don't have the energy to think of anything new to say.

It could have something to do with the Schools mascot. The Viking may be making students feel unsafe, oppressed and racially marginalized. With his angry male face and posture we could be subjecting these children to an environment that promotes this sort lashing out. Perhaps it would be best to move to something a little more gender neutral, diverse and less aggressive. One idea I have is the Wareham Seahorses. The Seahorse is a nurturing creature, cute, good swimmer, sporty looking, no hands to hold guns with and the best part is the male gives birth to the young, now thats diverse. I believe it would create a far more positive and progressive environment.

SPHEREBREAKER I really hope you comment was meant sarcastically?

I don't know what to make of these kids doing this, especially after seeing the other kid getting arrested for the same thing. I guess going to jail is the COOL thing to do anymore? Sickening that these kids have that mindset and I have to wonder what their family life is like that makes them want to do something this stupid.

Like the other stupidity unique to Wareham, this is embarrassing.  We are in the news once again for something that is ridiculously stupid.  If the first kid was a one time thing we could say "It could have happened anywhere".  But that line ain't going to cut it now.  It wasn't enough to be known to attract some of the dumbest adult criminals that always have their ugly mugs in here.  No it wasn't.  Now our high school students can be known for Terroristic Threats. Good stuff.

I'm thinking of a 8 letter word again.  Starts with W...ends with Y.  Just sayin'

It's got to be something in the water.  Does manganese enhance stupidity?  Maybe the 30 zillion dollar treatment plant will end dumbness in town.  If that's the case they can double my taxes and I won't complain.  Heck, when I was younger I remember they used to blame the tap water on the excessively high teen pregnancy rate and baby mamma situation in town.  Do they still?

Yes, the first one was stupid to say and do what he did.  The 2nd one, I don't know if he did the same thing - a copy cat - or if he was in with the first one, it just doesn't matter.  It happened and it's court or jail time for them.     Do any of you read Boston or New York papers?  It is everywhere, not just in Wareham.  Crime - stealing from family & friends to buy drugs and then B & E's to support their habit.  It is everywhere.  Shootings, stabbings, assaults - they are everywhere! Do you think these other town's and city's local papers don't have big write ups & mug shots?  They do.     And, WBTS,  40+ yrs. ago I had a dr. tell me that when the telephone came out with the handset, people said it would cause cancer of the ear!!!!!

Oh I know Linda, locally the Enterprise, Patriot Ledger, & Standard Times have it all the time.  There's just something about the winners here that make it special.  Call it a "jenesaisquoi"  Last week we had the couple run back in the house and lock the cops out.  That takes a whole special kind of stupid.  Now this double terroristic threat.  No, that doesn't happen everywhere.  I was just with some staff from a nearby Southcoast school.  They were asking "what's up with kids in Wareham High?". I guess we're a big topic in surrounding schools because of that double feature.

They still say that cellphones cause brain cancer.  Oh, yea...my grandmother would freak out when someone was on the wall phone when it was raining.  They thought back then that lightning could travel in the cord and one could get electrocuted.
