Wareham Police respond to OUI in Onset

Jul 22, 2018

Wareham Police arrested a man for operating under the influence of alcohol on Saturday, July 21, who was reportedly turned away from a canal cruise due to his drunkenness.

Officer Steven Soqui responded to the call in Onset around 9:50 a.m where the suspect, Wayne Zuendel, 56, of Wareham, had allegedly driven away from the pier after being denied entry by employees.

Soqui observed Zuendel's car on Depot Street and stopped it along Cranberry Highway. Zuendel was then arrested.

Zuendel has been charged with operating under the influence of liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and a marked lanes violation.

I wonder if it was a solid night of drinking that ran into the next day, or if this guy just starts that early.

Kinda seems like it could be a micro episode of the movie Hangover... almost.

They should have let him on board . When they got to the other end of the Canal just keep on going and have him walk the plank

Some of us commenters are fairly vocal about the law breakers in Wareham.  The lawbreakers fall into different categories, ranging from the humorous dumbest criminal types all the way to bad stuff that's no joke.  Often other commenters rebut and state that "it happens everywhere", in attempts to somehow make it seem like Wareham is like every other town.   They are correct to an extent yet I feel that they really don't see that certain something that makes many of the lawbreakers in Wareham unique.

Yes, drunk driving/OUI happens everywhere...rich places & poor places.  It happens in Duxbury.  It happens in Brockton.  But there's that special "you can't make it up" part that keeps me amused about when things happen here!

Think about this one:  56 year old Wayne was out driving around town, all liquored up, on a Saturday morning.  Who does that?  For some reason he then thought it would be a good idea to go on a Canal Cruise...by himself...all drunk.  Who does that?  Can ya just picture what the employees saw as he came stumbling up to buy a ticket!  Like Cranky stated, it's like something out of a movie.  Only in Wareham!

Judging by that jewel on his forehead, he must have just returned from India. With the time zone change and all, that could explain the drinking so early in the morning. He could also have just gotten back from a Third Eye Blind concert. Another thought would that he is in transition to cycloptism, lots of that going around now that its the cool thing to do. Maybe its just a simple matter of him just being a budding unicorn and he's depressed that his rainbow tail hasn't sprouted yet. We just may never know.

You can't possibly be serious SPHERE! I will assume that your comment is a bad joke. Can Mr. Zuendel possibly have a drinking problem? Yes! Can he be accused of making bad decisions? Yes! But to comment on a facial feature that is beyond his control is just plain cruel! My son has a birthmark in the exact same place, but would have to undergo surgery to have it removed. The scar that remains after that surgery would be just as bad as the birthmark. Your entire remark was mostly about a facial feature. Please, while you sit and laugh about how clever you are with your "unicorn" jokes, maybe you could also find somewhere in your heart to just stick to the topic at hand, and not make fun or comments about a facial feature that is personal and has nothing to do with bad decisions and alcoholism? You must REALLY belly laugh at someone who has a medical condition and perhaps is disfigured by an accident or a bad burn on their face? We just may never know, but because you are perfect.......why not post a picture of yourself?

It's jerks like Zuendel who give public drunkenness a bad name.
