Wareham Police arrest man after finding loaded gun on boat

Jul 16, 2018

Wareham Police said a drunk, unruly 70-year-old man was arrested Monday morning after he was found with a loaded gun on his boat.

Richard Lepage of Douglas was charged with disorderly conduct and being an intoxicated person in possession of a firearm.

Police said officers responded to Besse Park at approximately 8:45 a.m. after receiving a report of an intoxicated man.

At the scene, Officers Karl Baptiste and Richard Robidoux found Lepage. When officers attempted to speak with Lepage, he screamed expletives at them and refused to cooperate, police said.

Baptiste then noticed a handgun on the boat’s console. Lepage then became increasingly hostile, screaming to get off of his boat, according to police. The gun was loaded and secured by officers.

Lepage is scheduled to appear in Wareham District Court on Tuesday.

Hopefully the PD got the Harbormaster involved. If the boat was boarded by the PD without the Harbormaster there could be issue with maritime law.

Um, drunk at 8:45am? Wow.....

Thank God the officers weren't hurt and got this clown.

Um...…….wait for HM?  Maritime law?      Isn't there something about operating a boat under the influence of...…?  Isn't there something about being drunk and in possession of a loaded gun?  F**K Maritime Law, he was drunk, he was hostile and not cooperative with police, and he could have shot someone!!!

We were on scene as well. The full press release did have that information.

I'm very glad the officers loaded and secured the gun.

But seriously folks, WPD could have easily faced a shooting by this drunk idiot. If he has a mooring in Wareham, I hope it is revoked.

Shouldn't that have read: The gun was "un" loaded and secured by officers?
