Leadership, service, citizenship, character and scholarship – all traits the newest members of the Wareham Middle School Honors Society had to demonstrate before joining the group.

On Tuesday, the Honors Society inducted 22 new members in front of family and friends in a brief ceremony inside the school’s auditorium.

In order to join the Honors Society, prospective members must maintain a 4.0 grade point average for two consecutive trimesters, as well as submit an essay to the council. Faculty members also rate students in the traits mentioned above.

During the ceremony, current members defined the five characteristics and then introduced the new members by reading a brief biography of the inductees.

Several new members were described as joining for their interest in community service, a major component of the group.

During Austin Tripp’s induction, he was described as wanting to join the Honors Society to make a difference in the world.

Current member Jordan DeMedeiros said being in the club prompted him seek out other activities, such as sports and joining student council.

“Hopefully, I’ll be able to do more, like join the high school’s Honors Society,” he said.

The sixth grade inductees are as follows: Lance Campinha, Laura Clements, Noah DeMoranville, Mason Dunfee, Autumn Francis, Elizabeth Higgins, Owen Irving, Jessica Janak, Mya Lewis, Anthony Malcolm, Nicole Monteiro, Kinzie Navarro, Mattison Peckham, James Pinkham, Isabella Russo, Gabriel Silva, Peyton Smith, Luke Sprague, Ryann Tripp, Indiana Troupe.

The seventh grade inductees are as follows: Jasmine August, Austin Tripp.
