The April 3 town election ballot is taking shape as eight potential candidates have pulled nomination papers so far.

After pulling nomination papers, those interested in seeking office must secure the signatures of 50 registered voters. The last day to pick up nomination papers in the Town Clerk’s office is Feb. 9. The deadline to return papers is Feb. 13 at 5 p.m.

There are two seats on the Board of Selectmen in the upcoming election, one three-year seat and one two-year seat. The latter is needed to fill a vacancy left by the abrupt resignation of Judy Whiteside on Jan. 9 for unspecified personal reasons. Incumbent Alan Slavin has pulled papers. Faith Berry has also pulled papers for Selectmen.

Two three-year School Committee seats are up for election. School Committee member Geoff Swett will seek re-election. Former School Committee member Michael Flaherty, who last sat on the committee in 2015, also pulled papers.

There are two seats on the Wareham Housing Authority up for election, one five-year seat and one one-year seat. The one-year seat will fill a vacancy left by Rudy Santos, who passed away last year. So far, current Chair Bob Powilatis has taken out papers.

Other potential candidates that have pulled papers include incumbent Deputy Moderator Joseph Ashley, incumbent Sewer Commissioner Jim Giberti and Steven Curry for assessor.
