Town to host community discussion on Wareham's development needs

An interactive discussion to discuss Wareham’s community development strategy will be held on Jan. 31, and all residents, business owners and nonprofit organization representatives are encouraged to come give their two cents on issues that are important to them in town development.

The town is preparing its 2018 grant application to the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development, and this strategy meeting is required to apply for the grant. The state will make sure each project on the town’s request for funding is reflected specifically or generally in the community development strategy.

It will be a “summary document for the town and what the town perceives as its needs,” said Peter Sanborn, director of the Community & Economic Development Authority (CEDA).

The meeting won’t include a specific discussion about what the town will apply for in the grant application, Sanborn said, as that will happen during a public hearing in February.

“It’s important that people come to be heard,” Sanborn said. “Make sure the goals of the town are on track and valid, or share a different viewpoint if they feel there are others that should be given more emphasis.”

The meeting will review the current and past priority needs as reflected in community development strategies, followed by a discussion with attendees.

The meeting will take place on Jan. 31 at 6:30 p.m. at Town Hall, 54 Marion Road. Written comments are also welcome and can be submitted by email to psanborn@wareham.ma.us or mailed to or dropped off at the CEDA office.
