Survey of Onset, Wareham Villages starts soon to secure federal grants

Jan 12, 2018

Over the next few months, officials will survey building and infrastructure conditions in Wareham Village and Onset Village in a bid to secure future grants for improvements.

Project consultants from JM Goldson Community Preservation + Planning will perform the inventory. Representatives will walk through both neighborhoods to document existing conditions.

The report is needed to commit future federal Community Development Block Grant funds for infrastructure and building initiatives in both areas. This process will continue through early spring. Following that, public meetings will be held in each neighborhood to review the project findings.

In Wareham Village, the survey will focus on the Main Street corridor. In Onset, the survey will focus on the heart of the village, extending from Lopes Field to the Stone Bridge and include Shell Point and Crescent Park.

Past projects in both areas have allowed the town to improve public amenities, streetscapes and infrastructure.

According to a press release issued by Peter Sanborn, Community Economic Development Authority director, the survey provides the needed the groundwork allowing the town to use federal funding for public improvement projects.
