Stuck truck removed from train bridge in Wareham

A truck became wedged beneath the railroad bridge near Decas Elementary School on Main Street Tuesday afternoon.

The truck was removed and was parked on Tobey Road at 2:30 p.m. The truck sustained moderate damage to its roof as a result of the crash.

That is a 6 wheel straight truck, not a tractor trailer. There is no tractor, nor a trailer there

Nope, certainly not a tractor trailer...just a 6 wheel truck.  A 6 wheel truck that was obviously too big to fit under that bridge.  That bridge is odd because it's low and the road turns sharply under it. I've been leary driving much smaller vehicles under it.


Having stated that about the bridge, I feel it's ok to ask a question:  What the heck was the driver thinking?  Let's face it, it's a low, rinky dink little bridge heading into a rural area.  No place for big trucks.  Didn't he realize that his truck was too tall?  Isn't the clearance clearly stated on the bridge and the height clearly stated on the truck within the view of his mirror?
