Drivers were reminded on Tuesday parking in Onset comes with a price starting June 1.

On that day, parking kiosks will be turned on and fines will be handed out to those who fail to pay.

“So watch out, folks,” said Town Administrator Derek Sullivan at Tuesday’s Selectmen meeting.

Kiosks are located on the Town Pier, the Union Avenue lot near the tennis courts in Onset Village and on Onset Avenue near the beach. It costs $2.50 to park for the first hour and $2 for each subsequent hour. Each kiosk accepts debit cards, credits cards and coins, but no bills.

Does that mean it was free to park there before June 1?  When are they turned off?

Really, still no answer to my question?

I don't know much about Onset or I'd try to answer.  Year round revenue would seem nice.  Yet I'll go out on a limb and say that they can't have these things in use in the off-season with few around to monitor.  The junkies will be smashing them open to get quarters.

There are signs posted near metered parking indicating the dates between which parking fees are charged. I think (but I could be wrong) fees end October 31. There doesn't seem to be a problem filling metered spaces during the summer months, but my guess is that enforcing meter payments during the winter when there are considerably fewer people willing to pay for metered parking in order to visit Onset, might negatively impact the Onset businesses which are open during the winter.

as an onset resident, Yes you can park for free at any of the metered lots prior to the meters being turned on.  TADA!
