Wareham Department of Natural Resources officials report that a dog is OK after being tossed off the Stone Bridge in Onset.

According to authorities, the dog fell 12 feet before hitting the water. The owner of the dog is known to officials, but the person’s identity has not been released. Officials said they will pursue the issue and updates will be provided pending an investigation.

“Dogs are not supposed to be tossed off a bridge and no they don’t ‘like it,’” according to a post on the department’s Facebook page.

Glad the dog is ok.  What a rotten thing to do to a dog.  I'll bet that this wouldn't have happened if we had a dog park.

Side story:  Back in the 80s when kids played outside, we used to jump off that bridge.  It was before we had cars.  We'd get there by boat...from Swift's!  A motley crew in a fleet of crappy boats, none more than 16'.  That's kinda a long trip for a small boat. We'd risk the mouth of the canal and other dangers in order to do something else dangerous.  It's a good drop!  It was scary because I always feared landing in a boat or in front of a boat!  We'd assign a spotter that would keep watch for boats.  Never once did the authorities say a word to us!  What happened to the good ole days?

I hope this guy is charged and the dog removed from his care. Just disgusting behavior. Can you imagine how scared this poor dog was? That's a long drop!

Looks like bouy cam has other uses over and above tracking great white sharks transiting the East River.

WBTS-I worked in Onset my Jr. year, for friend's parents restaurant, split shifts.  We would watch this dog swimming against the current, out to Wicket's and quite often to the beach side of this bridge.  He'd run up the hill, jump up onto the bridge and jump into the water (no spotter) and at least 2 or 3 times.  People knew who he belonged to but being from Wareham I didn't.  I AM NOT SAYING IT IS OKAY TO THROW ANYTHING OFF THAT BRIDGE!!!!

Well, if the pooch you watched did it by himself I guess it's better than being tossed against his will.

WBTS - If I remember correctly, it rested it's head on his 2 front paws, similar to a dive position.

This ***hole should be tossed into the ocean by surprise and then maybe have the boat drive away...
