Three men were seriously injured when their vehicle rolled over and caught fire in I-495’s southbound lane Thursday morning.

Due to the severity of their injuries, medflight helicopters touched down in the Flagship Cinemas’ parking lot to transport two of the men to hospitals in Rhode Island and Boston. The third man was taken by ambulance to Tobey Hospital.

The crash occurred at approximately 9:38 a.m. on I-495 in Middlboro. Wareham, State and Middleboro Police responded.

According to officials, the pickup truck involved in the crash ended up in the woods off the highway and had caught fire. All three men were trapped inside the pickup truck and two sets of extrication tools, known as the jaws of life, had to be used.

Officials said one victim had life-threatening injuries and the other two were seriously injured.

Wareham Week has reached out to State Police for additional information.
