A man who reportedly fled from police and nearly hit an officer with his car on July 16 has turned himself in to Wareham District Court.

Jazz Tavares, 29, of New Bedford, allegedly sped away from police with a woman passenger after being stopped on Hathaway Street by Officer Charles Pillsbury for a revoked license.

Police said Pillsbury, who was working off-duty detail, had to run out of the way to avoid being hit when Tavares stepped on the gas.

Police later found Tavares' car on Cranberry Highway near New England Farms, but Tavares was no longer driving.

Instead it was his passenger, Kristina Boucher-Szwedko, 26, of Mattapoisett with two small children in the backseat. She reportedly refused to cooperate with police and was arrested by Officer James White. The children were taken by a family member who arrived on scene.

Boucher-Szwedko was charged with accessory after the fact of a felony, interfering with the duties of a police officer, and numerous motor vehicle violations as the car was both unregistered and uninsured with attached license plates.

Tavares turned himself on Thursday, July 19. He is being charged for assault with a dangerous weapon, operating to endanger, failure to stop for police, and operating with a suspended driver’s license.

Tavares posted $1,000 bail and is due to return to court on Aug. 13.

Although a paltry consolation, at least DJ Jazzy Jeff eventually did the right thing.

How's that?  I'm supposed to start being more positive :)

See Brennan, Jazzs ears are straight. Even with his head tilted you can see they are straight.  Not so with his partner in crime.

Turned himself in then posted bail... Where's my rolls-eyes emoji ?

Another great catch and release story. He's scheduled to be back in court August 13th, so I'm supposing we'll get another breaking news headline around August 18th of Jazzy getting arrested for a warrant.

Why isn't he being charged with operating unregistered, uninsured, and attaching plates also, and the car confiscated and sold at auction so they can't drive it when they get home. Start costing these people some money when they come to town
