High school sports round-up

Wareham High School athletes are busy, even during April vacation! Here's a recap of what's going on and what's coming up.



The Wareham High School girls tennis team lost to Bourne 3-2 on Thursday, April 11. The boys also lost to Bourne with a score of 4-1.

Competing in first singles, Karli Griggs achieved her fourth consecutive win, bringing her overall record to 4-1. The second doubles team of Charlemya Erasme and Kendra Wright pulled out the second win for the girls. The complete girls results are listed below:

First singles: Karli Griggs (Wareham) vs. Sarah Buck, 6-2, 6-2

Second singles: Stevey Baptiste (Wareham) vs. Brie Girouard, 6-1, 6-1

Third singles: Kristin Monty (Wareham) vs. Abi Pomeroy 6-0, 6-1

First doubles: Katie Modlowski/Nicole Nault (Wareham) vs. Monica Conway/Molina Oung, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4

Second doubles: Charlemya Erasme/Kendra Wright (Wareham) vs. Tressie Fretschl/Kaelyn Kowclz, 7-6, 7-3, 6-0

On Tuesday, April 16, the boys fell to Seekonk, 5-0. Stats were not immediately available.



On Thursday, April 11, the boys and girls track teams both pulled out wins over Bourne. The boys won with 71-65, and the girls won 86.5-47.5. This was the first win of the season for both teams.

At the South Coast Conference Relay Saturday, April 13, both the girls 4x100 and 4x400 teams qualified for the Division III State Championship. The 4x100 team of Hunter Thatcher, Aliyah Alley, Maddie St. Julien, and Kate Cunningham earned first place with a time of 52.5.  The 4x400 team of Caitlyn Berger, Anna Richard, St. Julien and Alley earned first place with a time of 4:29.0.


Coming up!

The Wareham High School baseball team will play Bourne, away, on Friday, April 19, at 10:30 a.m., while the softball team takes on Bourne at home at the same time.

On Monday, April 22, the baseball team will take on Greater New Bedford Voc-Tech at home at 3:30 p.m., while the softball team plays them in New Bedford, also at 3:30 p.m.

The Greater New Bedford Voc-Tech boys and girls track teams will be at Wareham at 3:30 p.m. Monday, April 22.
