HARWICH – The Wareham Gatemen (18-13-1) look to avoid a three-game losing streak when they take on the Harwich Mariners (14-17-2) tonight at Whitehouse Field in Harwich at 6:30 p.m.

The Gatemen are coming off two losses yesterday, the first one to the Hyannis Harbor Hawks and the second to the Brewster Whitecaps. Wareham lost their protested game that started on July 8 by a score of 6-5. In their second game of the day, Brewster came back from down 3-0 in the seventh to comeback and beat the Gatemen 5-3. Overall, the Gatemen are in a slump going just 4-5-1 in their last 10.

The Mariners tied their only game yesterday 3-3 to the Cotuit Kettleers in 12 innings. Harwich trailed 3-0 and tied the game by scoring three runs in the sixth. The day before that Harwich won 11-3 over the Kettleers. Despite playing better the past two days, Harwich is just 3-6-1 in their last 10.

RHP Derek West (0-0, 0.00 ERA) is on the hill today making his first start of the year for Wareham. Last time out, West went five innings against the Falmouth Commodores and did not allow a run in that outing in relief of Cade Cavalli. His only other outing was on July 8 in the protested game. In that contest, West went a scoreless inning of relief.

RHP Austin Wood (0-1, 10.00 ERA) makes his ninth appearance of the summer and second start. Wood’s first start of the summer came against the Brewster Whitecaps back on July 12. He went three innings in that outing making it his longest of the summer. Of his eight appearances this summer, Wood has allowed runs to score in six of eight, including in his last four.
