Game 3 Preview: Kettleers visit Gatemen

WAREHAM- The Gatemen (2-0) enter play today looking to make it three wins in a row as they take on the Cotuit Kettleers (1-0) at 6:30 p.m. right here at Spillane Field.

The Gatemen are coming off a thrilling victory last night in the home opener. Wareham defeated the Harwich Mariners 3-2 on a walk-off sacrifice fly by Bryant Packard in the bottom of the ninth.

Ken Waldichuk threw four innings of one run baseball and looked very sharp. The relievers (Zach Hart, Thomas Miller, Dominic Savino, and Anthony Romanelli) came in pitched five solid innings surrendering just one run while striking out four.

The Kettleers had the night off yesterday as their game versus the Bourne Braves was canceled due to the weather.

In their season opener, Cotuit won easily over the Brewster Whitecaps by a score of 10-1. Outfielder Peyton Burdick was the star of the night. He went 4-4 with three home runs and seven RBI to pace the Cotuit attack.

LHP Mason Feole is the scheduled starter for Wareham. Feole is a native of Wakefield, R.I. and is coming off a spectacular sophomore season at UConn. The Husky went 9-2 with a 2.90 ERA this past year over 100.2 innings of work. Feole struck out 120 batters and walked just 49.

The 2018 campaign marks Feole’s second season with the Gatemen. In 2017, Feole went 1-3 with a 4.94 ERA in six starts. His best outing in the Cape last season came on July 19 when he pitched five scoreless innings allowing just a singular hit and struck out six in a win over Brewster.

LHP Zane Collins will be the starter today for Cotuit. Collins is from West Mansfield, OH and is a rising senior at Wright State University. This past season as a junior, Collins went 6-1 with a 4.18 ERA in 66.2 innings of work. These numbers were down from Collins’ sophomore season when he went 7-5 with a 2.83 ERA in 92.1 innings of work.
