Fall Charity Board Academy - Session 2

WAREHAM - Nov. 27, 2016 - If you are a director on a nonprofit 501(c)(3) board, or if you may occupy one soon, you are probably aware of some of the sticky issues that can be encountered. The CHARITY BOARD ACADEMY offers an informal and relaxed environment to discuss critical information or confirm assumptions regarding issues like board member insurance,conflict of interest, personal liabilities and legal responsibilities, as defined by state and federal laws and industry best practices.

The LEGAL CENTER FOR NONPROFITS, Inc. of  New Bedford, the ONSET BAY ASSOCIATION and CULTURAL CONNECTION, Inc. of Wareham, have combined resources to present the CHARITY BOARD ACADEMY. In these sessions we highlight management options for you and your organization. In addition we discuss time saving practices and the basics of grants.  A position on a nonprofit board will have lasting affects on the organization you love and the community it serves, the CHARITY BOARD ACADEMY helps you grow whether you are new to the nonprofit sector or a seasoned professional..

These professional improvement classes are facilitated by Nonprofit Specialist Attorney, Linnea Michel, Esq., President of the LEGAL CENTER FOR NONPROFITS.

The IRS and the Offices of the Attorney General have very specific expectations of those who sit on the boards of charitable organizations. Although these expectations are reasonable, they are not inconsequential for the individual director. The CHARITY BOARD ACADEMY will help participants navigate these expectations while at the same time prepare them to be knowledgeable and effective and legally compliant directors.

Attendance by two or more members of the same board is strongly suggested as this will enable recall and reenforcement of crucial concepts. Donation is just $10 per person per class. The Cultural Connection, Inc., is a broad spectrum, charitable, tax exempt, tax deductible organization whose purpose is creating, connecting & preserving public cultural assets and related infrastructure for the benefit of Greater Wareham, consistent with the larger aims of the town and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Its focus of activity is known as Creative PlaceMaking. Creative PlaceMaking is the ongoing activities that facilitate feelings of vibrancy, unity and self esteem of and amongst a community, its residents, visitors and businesses by diligently employing imaginative use of various cultural assets that make up and define specific areas.
