2 adults, 2 children involved in car roll-over on Main Street

Aug 23, 2017

On Tuesday at approximately 8 p.m., Wareham Police, EMS and Wareham Fire Department personnel responded to a single car roll-over accident in the area of 426 Main St., just north of the CVS Plaza.

Upon arrival at the scene, responding officers observed a vehicle overturned on its hood and a female unconscious and breathing on the ground next to the passenger side, as well as a male and two small children, ages 4 and 5, who were standing outside the overturned vehicle.

The female, a 31-year-old New Bedford resident, was transported to Rhode Island Hospital by Wareham EMS to be treated for serious injuries, including possible head trauma, while her two children were transported to Tobey Hospital to be checked for possible minor injuries. The adult male at the scene, identified as 31-year-old Antonio Chaves of Taunton, had no apparent injuries and refused medical treatment at the scene.

At this time, the adult female, who will not be named at this time, is reportedly in stable condition at Rhode Island Hospital.

Investigation of the incident by Wareham Police Officer Joseph Cardoza revealed that Chaves operated the vehicle at a high speed while traveling east on Main Street and struck a hydrant on the side of the road, which caused the vehicle to turn over onto its roof.

Chaves has been charged with Operating to Endanger and Operating After License Suspension; sixth offense. Chaves will appear for arraignment on the criminal charges at Wareham District Court at a later date.

So glad they caught this loser. He has children in the car and drives like a jackass. Should be banned from driving forever after six offenses.

There goes the magnet again!  Antonio Chaves of Taunton is no surprise. John Walsh of Norwell behaves when he's in Wareham...just sayin'. Undesirable people from undesirable places come here and do undesirable things like this!

I'd guess it was her car because 6th offense Antonio from Taunton likely doesn't have his own.  So he nearly kills her, traumatizes her young kids, puts many others in harms way, wrecks her car, and walks away! The car should have landed on him and crushed his skull and the woman and children should have been unharmed.  Where's the justice?

"Operating After License Suspension; sixth offense."  SIXTH offense?!  This state is a joke.

Society, how is this in any way the states fault? Don't you think it would happen in any of the other 49? How long do you want the state to lock him up for @ $55,000 per year? Im sure the state will take any suggestions.

Yes Knocked, I agree, Antonio must be full of hate for doing what he did. No regard for the safety and the lives of so many that he put in harm's way.  He is certainly an inconsiderate, selfish, hateful person.
