After a car pursuit in Onset, Wareham Police arrested a 19-year-old Falmouth resident July 7 for refusing to stop for police, operating a vehicle without a license, speeding and property damage caused during the chase.

On that morning, the Yarmouth Police alerted the Wareham officers to be on the lookout for unlicensed driver Chad Fernandes, who was operating a red pickup truck. Officials said Fernandes had made threats in Yarmouth and police believed he was headed to Wareham.

At around 6 a.m., Sergeant Dan Henderson noticed the truck on Onset Avenue being driven by a man fitting Fernandes’ description. Henderson attempted to stop the truck, but Fernandes allegedly accelerated, speeding down Onset Avenue and then through side streets. As he drove away, Fernandes damaged a residential fence and lawn, police said.

According to police, the truck arrived at the Wareham Police Department minutes later, where Fernandes was placed under arrest after briefly refusing to leave the truck.

Fernandes was charged with the following offenses: failure to stop for police, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, negligent operation, marked lanes violations, speeding, leaving the scene after causing property damage.

Stay away you ugly POS loser!  Stay in Yarmouth or Falmouth (says he's from both) and conduct your illegal dangerous activities there.  Week after week we wonder why they all end up in Wareham.  Why?  I kid around about the big magnet but seriously, it's getting old!

At 6 am good folk are jogging and walking and enjoying themselves. Good folk with jobs are going to work.  This waste of life a-hole could have killed someone.  Too bad he didn't crash and kill himself.

So glad they caught this thug!

Onset, you'll notice.

it's not so much that it is onset, but rather one of the 1st off the highway towns to go thru to hide and get off the main roads where they were mostly looking,, this is not part of this discussion, it's just a personal question,,y'all have concealed carry up there?

181, you are correct from an East to West perspective.  I can see how someone fleeing the cape will ditch off into Onset.  However, what about West to East on 195 and North to South on 495?  They all get funnelled straight to Onset/Wareham from all directions.  Kinda like sewer pipes leading to a cesspool.

Well , I have to put my two cents in . I think if you're a criminal you'll just blend in .. Back in the earlier 90's a couple of  "Villen's" that were hiding from the law up in the big city lived everyday lives down here on Swifts Beach unnoticed  .. They would actually hide a few "Townies " every once an while . Again the magnet is super strong ...

Yep, I heard similar back then. One very high profile guy was hiding out and mixing in around here without getting caught. There are many stories about Whitie Bulger living in West Wareham and in Onset.  Imagine that...

I feel badly for the police and I really hope this guy smartens up.  He's not off to a good start in life.  Why do these "criminals" think they can hide in this section of town?   It's not 1970 anymore.  Technology tracks you everywhere.
