On Saturday, March 23 from 9 to 1 p.m., pickleball players will gather at the Gleason Family YMCA, 33 Charge Pond Road, for a ‘Sham Slam! St. Patrick’s Day Indoor Open.’

The tournament will be for players who feel their skill level is a 3.5 or better. It will be an open tournament with no age, gender or other restrictions. There will be 16 players in the tournament. 

The cost is $30 for YMCA members and $35 for non-members. Proceeds will support the YMCA pickleball program. Sign up at the welcome center in the YMCA lobby. 

It will be broadcast by Wareham Community Television. Sponsors comprise Lucky Goat Brewery, Blue Foot Cafe, Southcoast Pickleball Fairhaven, Pickleball and More Dartmouth, and Jess “The Pickleball Professor” Rego. 

The format will be a round-robin with rotating partners and opponents, using all four courts. Every player plays 15 games, with a fast format of ‘first to seven, win by one.’ The goal is to have fun playing with a variety o partners. 

Gold, silver and bronze medal winners will be determined by the most points won in 15 games. Ties will be broken by the fewest points allowed or lost over 15 rounds of play and, if necessary, by head-to-head win totals.
