Opinion: Support the PRICE fund

Mar 12, 2024

To the editor:

I was thrilled at last week’s release of the PRICE, Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) details. It’s a significant step toward addressing the manufactured housing needs nationally and here in Massachusetts, where there are 259 manufactured home communities (MHC's).

One of those is Royal Crest Mobile Park , where I’ve lived for 8 years. It’s a safe, thriving community to live in and since the homeowners here purchased the community in 2022 , we’ve stabilized our rent and begun making improvements throughout the neighborhood.

This new HUD program is a crucial milestone in preserving the availability of affordable housing. I sincerely thank the members of our Congressional delegation who have demonstrated their commitment by signing on to legislation (S.3264 and H.R. 6321) that would permanently authorize the PRICE fund. Their dedication to finding lasting solutions in this severe housing crisis deserves recognition and gratitude.

But we need everyone in the Delegation to support us, and I call on Senators Markey and Warren and Representative Keating to co-sponsor the legislation as well. Our region’s economic vitality depends on ensuring that everyone can secure a decent place to live.

The PRICE fund holds immense promise. But as of today, it’s a one-time appropriation. It’s crucial for every member of our Delegation to support and endorse the legislation that makes PRICE permanent.
