Elks name Student of the Year

The Wareham-New Bedford Elks Lodge #73 held an annual dinner to honor its Student of the Month recipients on Wednesday, May 1.
Ma’Laura Rivas, a senior from Wareham High School, was presented with the Student of the Year award for 2023-24.
“We’d like to congratulate Senior Ma’Laura Rivas,” read a Wareham High School Facebook post. “We are incredibly proud!” The school also congratulated the Elks’ student of the month recipients from Wareham and from other local high schools.
Matthew Nawoichik, a Wareham resident who attends Upper Cape Regional Technical School, was presented with the Student of the Year award for 2023-24 for that institution.
Special guest State Representative Susan Williams Gifford awarded Student of the Year certificates and $500 checks to Student of the Year award recipients from Wareham, Upper Cape, Old Colony and Old Rochester Regional.
The Elks have ran the program for over 40 years, according to a statement from the lodge. “Supporting our community schools has always been and will continue to be a lodge priority.”
