East Wareham man charged with impaired driving in Whitman crash

WHITMAN — An East Wareham man will be charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs after crashing an SUV into an apartment building in Whitman on Monday, April 15.

The 42-year-old Wareham man whose name has not been released by the Whitman Police Department will also be charged with possession of a class A substance, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and a marked lanes violation, according to Whitman Police Chief Timothy Hanlon and Fire Chief Timothy Clancy. 

The crash happened at around 10:30 a.m., according to the Whitman Police Department.

He was transported by a Whitman Fire ambulance to an area hospital to be treated for his injuries. 

There were no other reported injuries and no other occupants of the SUV. 

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Whitman Police Department.
