Cara Bean will be at the Wareham Free Library running a series of drawing workshops for the younger library patrons.

Bean is a cartoonist and art educator based in New Bedford, and the author of the book titled "Here I Am, I Am Me: An Illustrated Guide to Mental Health." Visit her website at carabeancomics.com for more information.

The workshops are free but registration is required to ensure adequate seating and doodling supplies. Visit the calendar on the library's website to register.

On Thursday, March 21, from 3 to 5 p.m., Bean will run "Doodle + Comics," a workshop on making comics and zines. The workshop begins with a conversation about the unique mechanics of how comics can tell stories. Participants will talk about how to come up with a storyline and develop a character and discuss other topics related to writing and drawing comics. They will do some simple doodle exercises to generate ideas, and experiment with inspiring comic formats to tell their own stories and share.

On Thursday, April 4, from 3 to 4 p.m., Bean will run "Doodle + Discovery," a workshop on doodling about the brain. The workshop will begin with an illustrated presentation. While discovering various brain functions, participants will fill in a coloring book page to help absorb the information and relax. Then, participants will experiment with a series of doodle exercises highlighting and ticking different areas of their brains.
