Wareham basketball and track teams shine as seasons wind down

The Wareham Vikings boys basketball team trounced Apponequet, 68-48, on Friday, Feb. 15. The Lady Vikings also won by a slim margin, edging out Apponequet in a 54-52 victory.

On Monday, Feb. 18, the Wareham Vikings boys basketball team defeated Greater New Bedford Vocational Technical High School,57-53. The boys fought hard for the victory, which saw GNB Voc-Tech leading for most of the third and fourth quarters.

The Lady Vikings fell to GNB Voc-Tech, 61-54. Their record now stands at 12-7 overall, and 9-7 in the South Coast Conference.

Tuesday, Feb. 19 the boys defeated North Quincy 81-64 in a non-conference game.

Both the boys and the girls have already qualified for the state tournament.

The Wareham track and field team had some success at the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Division III State Championship.

Aliyah Alley placed third in the 55-meter dash, and fourth in the 300-meter dash. Kelley Peterson placed 35th in the 600-meter race.

In the 4x400 relay, Wareham placed 14th, with Caitlyn Berger, Madison St. Julien, Kelley Peterson, and Paige Fehskens running.

On the boys team, Johnny Irving placed 10th in the shot put.
