Nicanor “Nick” Peter DeMasa III, 68, died April 8 as a result of the effects of dementia.

Born in Wareham, a 1967 graduate of Wareham High School, he graduated with a bachelor’s of science in engineering from Northeastern University and a master’s of science in computer science from the University of California at Irvine. For his entire working life he was employed as a software design engineer. He retired from Raytheon in Tucson where his business card said he was a “rocket scientist.”

Nick loved backpacking, astronomy, glider flying (he was a pilot) and his family.

He is survived by his mother, Elsie Parker of Wareham; his wife, Heather; daughter, Sierra; son-in-law, Collin and three granddaughters, all of Tucson, Arizona.

There will be no formal services, but his ashes will be scattered in Hawaii, a place he loved. He will be missed.
