The First Congregational Church of Wareham was gathered in 1739 and chartered on December 25 of that year. Following a colonial tradition, the town of Wareham was also chartered at the same time.

The present church is the fifth church erected on this site, the others being victims of time and an occasional fire.

The church today enjoys an active enrollment of 125 members with a regular Sunday attendance of 70. There is also an active Church School with a registry of forty children from pre-k to grade six. There are four active church committees served by volunteers; Diaconate, Missions and Outreach, Education Committee, Trustees.

New members are enrolled each January and encouraged to join these committees. Pledges are voluntary with service to the church and its activities being an acceptable substitute for monetary donations.

While we retain our Congregational autonomy the church has become a member of the United Church of Christ facilitating a greater national and world outreach serving those in the distant arena of need. All are welcomed at our church. Same gender unions will be performed if requested. Please join us for worship and welcome.

In addition to the church we have Rowland Thacher Fellowship Hall available for rent for birthday parties, fundraisers, Sweet 16's, dance recitals, shows, graduations, ceremonies, showers and Baptisms. For more information call 508-295-1630.

The Next to New Thrift Shop is located in Fellowship Hall. Come check us out for great deals on clothing and household items. Hours of operation are Thursday 10-2, Friday 10-2, and Saturday 10-2.

Services can now be seen on WCTV on Thursdays at 7PM and Sundays at 10AM, Verizon channel 30 and Comcast Channel 9.
