What happens when you combine two beloved Wareham traditions on the 4th of July?  Main Street will sizzle with excitement from Center Park at one end to Besse Park at the other.

The Wareham Historical Society’s Annual Antiques Fair will mark its 36th anniversary in Center Park from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., while the 16th annual Wareham Village Association Swan Festival will kick off at 10 o’clock up and down Main Street for a fun-filled day of events. A new addition, Art in the Park, will anchor festivities at Besse Park and a trolley will link events. For the more fitness minded, Southcoast Hospitals Group will publish a “park-to-park”  Swan Walk map, with Wareham historical information (and local trivia) and some fitness tips including a count of calories burned along the way!  The map, which will encourage residents to get out and get moving in the village,  will be available for free at local businesses and the hospital. And for the (feathered) royalty among us—swan princes and princesses)--carriage service along the scenic Wareham River will be available for a fee.  From antiques and food at one end to art at the other with music, food and a host of events and organizations represented along the way, Main Street will be the go-to holiday destination this 4th of July!

“What a different way to showcase Main Street in Wareham,” Wareham Village Association representative Anthi Frangiadis remarked.  “And, what fun to be working with the Wareham Historical Society to create a colorful and exciting Main Street experience for residents and visitors alike.”

Later in the week, Onset will host the Annual Fireworks Celebration on Saturday, July 7.

Most activities for a Swan on the 4th of July will be free to the public while others have small admission fees.  Antiques Fair admission into Center Park is $3 and benefits the Wareham Historical Society.  Events continue to be added to the 4th of July line-up so stay tuned to Main Street happenings by contacting us at 508.291.3677 or wva2012@gmail.com.
