Best Friends Preschool celebrates 15th graduation
Bubbles, confetti, and pint-sized caps and gowns all marked the momentous occasion for the four- and five-year-olds: their graduation from preschool and commencement to kindergarten.
"These are my babies!" said Maria Laporta, director of Best Friends Preschool, as her staff got the 29 graduates — the boys wearing blue caps and gowns, the girls in yellow — lined up in a hallway of Wareham High School.
The June 20 graduation ceremony was the preschool's fifteenth, but the students were the school's first ever toddler class.
"Every year as I look at the graduates, I can't help but be sad that they're leaving, but I am also happy for them," LaPorta told the more than 200 family members and friends gathered in the high school auditorium. "Your children have been loved by all of us here as if they were our own."
The students showed off the dance moves and singing skills they learned at Best Friends. LaPorta then rolled a video slideshow of all the fun activities the students participated in this year.
"Mom! Wait 'til you see the end," one graduate shouted from behind the on-stage projection screen as a sentimental song played over the speakers.
The grand finale photo showed one of the students planting a big kiss on one of his female classmates.
The voice again boomed from behind the screen.
"Mom! Did you see the end?!" he yelled. "It's great!"
One by one, the children marched across the stage to accept their preschool diplomas, as well as a special gift from LaPorta — a candy bouquet of flowers.
"Candy for all!" a graduate exclaimed as the names were read.
