Lisa Johnson to serve as interim Town Clerk

Mar 8, 2024

The Town of Wareham has a new face sitting behind the Town Clerk’s desk.

Lisa Johnson became interim Town Clerk on Feb. 12 after former Town Clerk Debra Gremo retired in January due to “unforeseen personal circumstances,” said Gremo.

Johnson has been a town clerk since 2017, serving in multiple different towns. She will remain the interim Town Clerk in Wareham through the end of July, at which point the town will decide whether to appoint her to the role in full.

Select Board Chair Judith Whiteside said Johnson has many years of experience in both elected and appointed Town Clerk roles, mostly in western Massachusetts, and that she handled the recent presidential primary in Wareham “perfectly.”

“We’re very pleased to have her,” Whiteside said. She added that Johnson has been able to step into the open position and has gotten along with the other employees in town offices.
